Designed by Formafantasma in 2025, the SuperWire pendant light from Italian brand Flos is the first modular collection of luminaires by the design duo for Flos. Both poetic and technically sophisticated, this project draws inspiration from the legacy of 20th century master glassmakers. The luminaire is made up of hexagonal flat glass surfaces connected by polished aluminium elements, and its entire body is lit by a thin, soft and flexible LED strip up to one metre long, which gives off a warm and even light. This LED technology is easily replaceable, which is exceptional among LED luminaires without conventional bulbs. In addition, Pendant version includes a hidden directional module for accent lighting of table surfaces, which complements the soft, diffused light of the vertical modules. SuperWire is conceived as a system solution that can be flexibly expanded and adapted to different project needs, making it ideal for creating light installations with a strong sculptural expression.

Innovative LED without bulb

SuperWire brings a unique lighting technology - a very thin, flat and flexible LED strip that illuminates the entire body of lighting with an even and warm light. Unlike conventional LED luminaires, it does not contain traditional incandescent bulbs and also allows easy replacement of the light source. This combination of high aesthetics and repairability is exceptional in the world of designer lighting and gives the luminaire both longevity and functional flexibility.

Customized sculpting system

Formafantasma designed SuperWire as a modular system that can be adapted to different architectural and project needs. The individual hexagonal modules made of glass and polished aluminium can be connected into larger units to create striking light compositions with spatial depth. The combination of indirect vertical light and an integrated directional module for illuminating surfaces makes SuperWire not only visually impressive, but also practically functional.

Designed by Formafantasma

Formafantasma is an Italian-Dutch design duo formed by Andrea Trimarchi and Simon Farresini, based between Milan and Rotterdam. Their work is based on experimentation that unpredictably shapes the final form of each project - exploring not only materials and forms, but also human behaviour and the relationship with the environment. Their work aims to stimulate a deeper understanding of human nature and the nature around us. Their portfolio is characterised as "visual language and thoroughly researched outcomes", which is reflected in projects such as the Wireline and Wirering lighting, where form is secondary and light and shadow play the main role.
